When plans were being formulated for the CSF Athletic Hall of Fame four summers ago, the founders agreed that the character of the student-athlete would be equally as important as the statistics he accumulated. Pat Quigley was the ideal student-athlete. He was a very conscientious student who excelled in the classroom as an English major and, through dedicated hard work, made himself into an outstanding basketball player. Despite the fact that he was not a highly successful high school player, he became a Unanimous All-Conference selection in the CCAC as a junior and led that team to the conference championship game against a multi-talented Chicago State team. Quigley was the best player on the floor that night, authoring 19 points and seven assists. And, who could forget Quigley's 18-foot jumper with :42 seconds left to give CSF a hard-fought 73-72 CCAC victory over Northeastern Illinois or his 17 points and 12 assists (which is fifth on the single-game list) against crosstown rival Lewis University. Quigley, who lost a battle with cancer back on May 3, will always be remembered as a very caring individual and leader to his classmates and teammates. That is why he stands atop the CSF archives along with a select group of 18 other Saint greats. Quigley finished his career averaging 6.7 points with a .719 reading from the charity stripe on the basketball court, while going 3-3 in singles play during his only season of competition in tennis in 1981.
