Randich, who was recruited by the late Bob Penosky to play on the school's first basketball team, found himself also being a building block in baseball both in the infield and outfield. In fact, he led the 1975 team in hitting with a .320 mark. Basketball made its debut on November 21, 1972 and Randich was there, even though the team's uniforms were not. Forced to play in some old practice uniforms that Marc Musser dug up, the Saints lost to Spoon River Junior College, 84-73. That game would start an incredible string for Randich. Over the next four seasons, he would appear in 148 of a possible 149 games. His only miss came in the 1973-74 season. John currently holds the #2 spot on the all-time rebounding list (789) and is second in career games played. He is also 10th on the single-season list for rebounds (257 in the '73-74 season) and 2nd in games played (37 in each of his last three seasons). For his career, he averaged 7.2 points and 6.3 rebounds.
