Second baseman Mike Spinozzi's best season came in 1981 when he batted a career-high .391 with 86 hits and 61 runs batted in in 67 games. In his first season in 1978, Spinozzi helped land the Fighting Saints their first of six World Series appearances when he batted .252. The appearance came just one year after Gordie Gillespie took over as head coach of the Saints in 1977. Among Spinozzi's hits that season was an RBI single in a 6-3 loss to defending champion David Lipscomb (TN) in the first World Series game. Spinozzi went on from there to record three consecutive .300-plus batting seasons ending with the .391 average in 1981. That same year, Spinozzi was honored as an NAIA All-American and All-conference recipient. His career can be easily retraced by perusing the CSF records, where he is among the top ten in four single-season categories and five career categories. For his four-year career, Mike batted .326 with 242 hits and 189 runs scored.
