Laney Pellegrini will always be remembered as the leader of the first University of St. Francis women's basketball team to advance to the NAIA National Tournament back in 2001-02. She was the team's top scorer (14.6 points per game) and rebounder (8.6) that year and added 41 blocked shots to her statistical line. She led the Saints to upset road victories at Saint Xavier and Indiana South Bend in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament that secured the team's berth in the national tourney field. USF dropped its opening round game to No. 1-seeded and eventual tournament runnerup Southern Nazarene.

Pellegrini enjoyed an outstanding senior season as she led USF to a 24-10 record, the second-most wins in a season in school history. She averaged 18.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game with a total of 63 blocked shots in 34 contests.

In her three seasons at USF after transferring from Kankakee Community College, Pellegrini helped lead the Saints to a record of 61-37. She averaged 16.4 points per game in her USF career and was a three-time first-team All-CCAC selection. She was also the CCAC Co-Most Valuable Player in 2002-03.
