BOURBONNAIS, Ill. --
Carmen Solis and
Dyannara Franco each scored individual titles to lead the University of St. Francis women's indoor track & field team to a fifth-place finish at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships over the weekend.
Solis and Franco were two of four Saints to help produce the team's 60 total points, with Solis being the only one to score in three individual competitions. Franco,
Evita Martinez and
Nicole Vollrath also earned two point-scoring placements each, while
Jaden Hart and the 4x800m team consisting of
Dianna Mascote,
Patrycja Mwroca,
Aaralyn Martinez and
Giselle Ramos both earned one.
Olivet Nazarene University claimed the league championship crown with its 243.5-point total, followed by Viterbo University (136.5 points) in second place and Saint Xavier University (128) in third. A total of eight teams made up the field.
Along with her first-place finish among 19 competitors in the 3,000-meter event, Solis also secured third- and fifth-place finishes in the One Mile and 1000-meter races, respectively. Her time in the 3000m race was 10:19.65, while she crossed the finish line for the mile run in 5:10.50 for a personal-best. For the 1000m race, she authored a time of 3:03.89.
For her performances in the 3000m and One Mile events, Solis procured all-conference accolades.
Also receiving all-league honors for her first-place finish in the 5000-meter race was Franco. She bested 13 competitors in the event, pacing the group with her time of 18:10.61. In the 3000m, Franco also was bestowed all-league plaudits after placing third overall while recording a personal-best time of 10:20.22.
Rounding out the list of all-conference honorees was Martinez with her second-place finish in the 3000m (10:20.16). The sophomore also secured points for the Saints in the 1000m with her sixth place reading of 3:06.74.
USF's 4x800m relay team secured a fourth-place finish (10:27.58), and Hart finished the day fifth overall in the Weight Throw (13.15m).
The Saints also had a pair of seventh-place finishers by Vollrath. She earned her placements in the 3000m (10:46.45) and in the One Mile (5:26.53).
Olivet Nazarene's Heidi Heldt garnered Outstanding Track Athlete accolades, while Viterbo's Lizzy Keck claimed Outstanding Field Athlete honors. Olivet Nazarene's Carsyn Burdine was named the meet's MVP
Olivet Nazarene's Kyle Rago was named the CCAC Coach of the Year, while Olivet Nazarene's Zontavius Johnson was tagged as the league's Assistant Coach of the Year.
Next Up
The Saints will compete next at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place March 5-7 at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center in Gainesville, Fla. Solis, Martinez and Franco will compete in the 3000-meter run, while the Saints will also field a team in the DMR.
