GULF SHORES, Ala. --- The University of St. Francis women's outdoor track & field team came away with an 11th place team finish at the NAIA Championships after earning top eight placements in three events on Friday to close out the meet at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium Complex. The Saints tied with two other teams in totaling 20 points over the three days.
Sabrina Baftiri accounted for nearly half of the points on Friday alone when she placed fourth in the 5,000 meter race and fifth in the 1,500 meter run for a total of nine points. She authored respective times of 17:38.37 and 4:31.92 to earn NAIA All America status in the two events.
Daly Galloway collected her second NAIA All America honor at the championships on Friday when she placed seventh in the 5,000 meter run despite being seed in the No.16 spot. She crossed the finish line in 17:49.65 to claim two points.
One day earlier, Galloway gained three points with her sixth place performance in the 10,000 meter run.
Joining Baftiri and Galloway as a two time NAIA All American at the championships was
Katherine Bakken. After totaling four points on Thursday with her fifth place finish in the 10,000 meter event, she joined up with
Allison Ramsey,
Bailey Wilk, and
Megan Ramsey on Friday to register an 8th place finish in the 4x800 meter relay.
Ana Mendoza Pineda provided the tenth NAIA All American performance for the Saints on the week with her eighth place effort in the 1,500 meter race. That, like the relay event, earned USF one point.
Also competing on Friday was
Teghan Tillman, who finished in a tie for 18th place out of 34 competitors in the high jump with a height of five feet, 4.5 inches.
The meet closed out an incredible career for seniors Baftiri,
Laisha Corona, and Galloway who were key pieces to the best five year run in the history of the cross country and track & field programs at USF. For Baftiri, her two NAIA All American awards on Friday gave her an unprecedented 17 for her career between the indoor and outdoor seasons and cross country.
