GULF SHORES, Ala. --- The University of St. Francis women's outdoor track & field team earned its first points at the NAIA Outdoor Championships with a pair of all american performances at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium Complex on Thursday. USF's 4x800 meter relay team also set the stage for more points on Friday with its effort, as well.
Gaining NAIA All American honors and earning seven points for St. Francis were
Katherine Bakken and
Daly Galloway in the 10,000 meter race late Thursday night. Bakken placed fifth in a field of 28 competitors with her time of 36:32.55, while Galloway was one slot behind her in sixth place after finishing in 36:33.75.
Also competing in the event for the Saints was
Laisha Corona, who crossed the finish line in 38:15.88 to place 15th overall.
Earlier in the day, USF's 4x800 meter relay team qualified for the finals on Friday with its showing. The squad of
Allison Ramsey,
Sabrina Baftiri,
Ana Mendoza Pineda, and
Bailey Wilk placed eighth among 18 teams, finishing in 9:15.58.
It will be a busy day on Friday for Baftiri, who will also compete in the 1,500 and 5,000 meter races. She will be joined by Corona and Galloway in the latter race, while
Teghan Tillman will compete in the high jump event.
