ST. LOUIS --- The University of St. Francis women's track & field team opened the outdoor season with a bang Friday night, hitting the "A" standard five times and breaking two school records in the process at the Washington University (Mo.) Distance Carnival.
Sabrina Baftiri topped the list of performers with her third place finish in the 5,000 meter run. She set one of the school records with her time of 16:55.89, an "A" mark.
Ana Mendoza Pineda and
Bailey Wilk placed in the Top 20 among 136 total runners in the same event. Pineda punched her ticket to the NAIA Outdoor Championships with her "A" time of 17:34.16, while Wilk just missed hitting the "A" standard, settling for the "B" mark with her time of 17:36.97. Pineda finished 16th overall with Wilk placing 19th.
Laisha Corona established the other new USF record as one of three Saints to finish in the Top 10 and hit the "A" standard in the 10,000 meter run. Corona placed seventh in the field of 49 runners at 35:53.98 with
Katherine Bakken right behind at 35:58.05.Â
Daly Galloway was two spots in back of Bakken, finishing tenth at 36:07.35.
