BOURBONNAIS, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's indoor track & field team claimed seven of 18 events, while also notching a pair of "A" standard performances at the Olivet Nazarene University Walter Cramer Invitational on Saturday.
Sabrina Baftiri boasted the top effort, which came in the 3,000 meter race. Not only did she capture the individual crown among 32 competitors in the field, but she also authored the second fastest time in the NAIA this year at 9:57.87. That represented the first "A" mark.
The other one came from the 4x800 meter relay team of
Laisha Corona,
Ana Mendoza Pineda,
Allison Ramsey, and
Veronica Navarrete. Their first place time of 9:40.14 currently ranks as the seventh fastest time in the NAIA this winter.
Mara Bruno also continued her strong indoor season with two more first-place finishes and one runner up effort on Saturday. She won both the 60 and 200 meter dashes, while also being on USF's second place finisher in the 4x400 meter relay.
Bruno was first out of 46 in the 60 meter dash (7.86 seconds) and first among 53 in the 200 (25.91). In the relay event, she paired up with
MayLee Ang-Henrikson,
Gianna Trenter, and
Talia Jones-Wright. In a field of nine teams, they ran a 4:15.09.
Besides her performance in the 4x800, Corona claimed first place in the 1,000 meter run. She bested 17 other challengers with a time of 3:04.25.Â
Allison Ramsey was two spots back in third at 3:10.10.
Bailey Wilk also came out on top of a large group of challengers in the mile run, where she claimed the top spot among 42 with her time of 5:20.52.
Rounding out the list of first place finishers was
Teghan Tillman, who tied atop the charts with her height of five feet, three inches in the high jump. Â Â Â
No team scores were kept at the meet.
