ALLENDALE, Mich. --- It turned out to be a historic weekend for the University of St. Francis women's indoor track & field program as the Fighting Saints set three new school records and registered four "A" standard marks at the Grand Valley State University (Mich.) Big Meets on Friday and Saturday.
Sabrina Baftiri and
Laisha Corona were each a part of two of the record setting performances, one on each day. Baftiri's first new top standard for the USF program came in the mile run on Friday, where she posted a time of 4:58.20. That placed her 17th in a field of 78 individuals from all collegiate levels of competition, including NCAA I, and also was an "A" standard mark.
Corona's individual record also came on Friday in the 3,000 meter run, where she won her heat in a time of 9:48.80. That mark was also an "A" standard.
The two then paired up on Saturday as part of St. Francis' new school best time of 11:58.64 in the distance medley relay. They were joined by
Mara Bruno and
Allison Ramsey for the "A" effort, which placed them 14th among 23 teams.
Katherine Bakken recorded USF's other "A" mark on Saturday when she placed sixth out of 50 runners in the 3,000 meter race with a time of 10:11.29. Teammate
Ana Mendoza Pineda was two spots back with her 10:17.28 time.
The Saints' other noteworthy performance came from
Teghan Tillman, who tied for second place among 16 qualifiers in the high jump with her height of 5 feet, 2.25 inches.  Â
