DAVENPORT, Iowa ---
Mara Bruno had a day to remember, hitting the trifecta with three first place finishes to lead the University of St. Francis women's indoor track & field squad to the team title at the St. Ambrose University Fighting Bee Invitational on Saturday.
Bruno won the 60 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and the long jump, where she hit the "B" standard with her leap of 18 feet, 2.5 inches. In the 60 meter dash, she finished in 7.93 seconds to place above 24 other competitors. In the 200 meter dash, she bested the 46 member field with her 26.11-second time.
Also having a solid day in her second-semester debut was
Sabrina Baftiri, who won the 600 meter race (1:40.05) against 13 challengers and hit the "A" standard with her runner up finish in the 1,000 meter event (2:59.85).
Laisha Corona provided USF's other "A" mark when she won the mile run in 5:09. 69. USF had the top six placements in that event, including
Ana Mendoza Pineda, who reached the "B" standard with her time of 5:15.43.Â
Katherine Bakken was third in the field of 21 runners with a 5:16.05.
Other second place efforts were recorded by
Teghan Tillman in the high jump (5-3) and
Rosita Ponce in the triple jump (34-4.75).
Kelsey Rice was third in the 3,000 meter race, producing a time of 11:35.13.
USF totaled 124 points on the day to win the event. Saint Xavier University was a distant second with 86 points, followed by Grand View University with 80 points.
