DAVENPORT, Iowa --- The University of St. Francis women's track & field team registered first-place finishes in eight of 16 events to claim the 2021 St. Ambrose University Finals Week Invite on Friday and Saturday. USF scored a total of 111 points to edge out host St. Ambrose by one point and beat Mount Mercy University, which totaled 48 points at the three team meet.
In the shorter distance events,
Kayah Cherry-Myles,
Celina Mayforth, and
Alyssa Dolan all rang up first-place performances. Cherry-Myles edged out Mayforth to win the 60 meter dash in a time of 8.16 seconds before the two flip flopped spots in the 200 meter dash, where Mayforth came out victorious in 26.8 seconds. Dolan gained the crown in the 60 meter hurdles with her 9.31 second finish.
USF had its most success in the long distance running events, where the Saints not only had the top performers in the mile and 3,000 meter runs, but also recorded seven "A" standard marks.Â
Laisha Corona won the mile run (5:00.37) and
Bailey Wilk did the same in the 3,000 meter run with her time of 10:14.31.
Corona and
Sabrina Baftiri hit the "A" mark in the mile run with Baftiri finishing in 5:05.01, while five Saints performed the feat in the 3,000 meter run. After Wilk were four more runners wearing the brown and gold, Corona (10:17.71),
Ana Mendoza Pineda (10:20.43),
Katherine Bakken (10:20.78), and
Daly Galloway (10:21.96).
The Saints also swept the jumps competitions with
Teghan Tillman winning the high jump event (5 feet, 1 inch),
Mara Bruno capturing the long jump (17-0.5), and
Claire Roberts claiming the triple jump (34-1.5).
