YORK, Neb. -- Falling just short of the 80-point threshold, the University of St. Francis competitive dance team earned a sixth-place finish out of 16 teams at the York University (Neb.) Crown Classic on Friday night.
Defending NAIA national champion St. Ambrose University (Iowa) came away wearing the crown, being the only team to score above 85 points. The Fighting Bees dominated the field with its 92.97 overall score.
Doan University (Neb.) finished second with 84.07 points, with Concordia University (Mich.) placing third (83.77). The Fighting Saints finished with a 79.77-point total.
USF again gained its highest scoring in the jazz category with an average score of 8.63 out of ten among the three judges' evaluations. The team also improved in the team turn sequence with its 8.5 average.
As for scoring in the overall routine categories, USF's No. 1 highlight was its degree of difficulty, where all three judges were unanimous in their 8.5 rating. Head coach
Lily Countryman's squad also earned high marks for choreography (7.80) and made solid improvements in performance impression (7.76) and team turns (4.5 out of 5). Â
