JACKSON, Mich.-- After completing its first regular season as members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the University of St. Francis women's bowling team competed in its first-ever WHAC Tournament on Saturday. The Saints finished the day tied for fifth among a field of 11 competing squads.
The one-day tournament, held at JAX 60, hosted 11 competing teams, including Indiana Tech, Lawrence Technological University (Mich.), Madonna University (Mich.), St. Francis and Rochester Christian University (Mich.). Also competing were Cleary University (Mich.), Concordia University (Mich.), Siena Heights University (Mich.), Lourdes University (Ohio), Aquinas College (Mich.) and University of Michigan-Dearborn.
The Saints posted an overall pin total of 2,695 over 15 Baker games to capture fourth place in the qualifying round, which was just 152 pins behind first-place finisher Indiana Tech (2,847). Concordia placed second with a 2,761 total, while Madonna knocked down 2,724 pins for the No. 3 seed. Rochester Christian (2,638) and Cleary (2,557) rounded out the qualifying bracket with their fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively.
In the first round of match play, St. Francis fell to Rochester Christian, dropping three of the five games in the series. In the championship, Lawrence Tech edged out Indiana Tech for the 2024-25 tournament crown with a victory in the decisive Game 7.
On the reserve front, USF's team gained first-place honors out of five squads in the qualifying round with its 2,605-pin count over 15 Baker games. Facing off against Madonna in match play, the Saints defeated the Crusaders 3-2 before sweeping Rochester Christian 4-0 in the championship round.
