KANSAS CITY, Mo./GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- In its inaugural year of membership in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the University of St. Francis women's bowling team garnered a total of 16 all-academic selections when the WHAC announced its winter academic honor roll on Wednesday morning. Eleven of those named were also chosen as NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Seniors
Karley Mason and
Estrella De la Rosa each secured NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for the third time in their careers, while senior
Cadence Ala, along with juniors
Bryanna Battles,
Idalia Hernandez,
Lilliana Gutierrez and
Katelynn Statz, each received the award for the second time. Rounding out the honorees were first-time recipients in sophomores
Chloe Greep,
Lindsey Prosperi and
Haley Tobiasz, and junior
Scarlett LaBuda. All 11 individuals also picked up WHAC accolades for the first time.
Battles and Statz are both Elementary Education majors, while Gutierrez and Tobiasz are each pursing a degree in Art & Design. Ala is majoring in Biology, Greep is working on a degree in Radiation Therapy and De la Rosa is an Accounting major.
As for the others, Hernandez is majoring in Values-Based Management, LaBuda is pursuing her undergraduate degree in Communication & Media Arts, Prosperi is majoring in English and Mason will enter the Psychology field upon completion of her degree.
A total of 175 student-athletes representing 49 schools gained NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors when they were announced by the national office on Wednesday.
In order to garner that status, nominees must be a sophomore or above in academic standing, must have been in attendance at their nominating institution for one full academic year and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher at the time of the nomination deadline.
The aforementioned 11-person contingent was joined by a group of five other Saints on the WHAC All-Academic Team. Those also recognized were:
Samantha Coldwater: Junior majoring in Computer Science
Leigha Henkel: Junior Values-Based Management major
Elizabeth Mansmith: Junior pursuing a degree in Special Education
Cassidy Stewart: History major in her junior season
Kaitlyn Thompson: Sophomore majoring in Biology
A total of 58 student-athletes representing 11 schools gained WHAC All-Academic accolades when they were announced by the league office on Wednesday. Greep and LaBuda were two individuals dotting the conference list to boast a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.
To be nominated for the WHAC award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at her school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 24 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
