Women’s Bowling Places Fourth At Jackson Open In First Tournament of Season

JACKSON, Mich. -- In its second year of competition as a member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the University of St. Francis women's bowling team claimed a fourth-place finish out of 12 teams in the league's opening meet of the 2025-26 season on Saturday at the Jackson Open.

USF knocked down a total of 2,745 pins on Saturday in three regular contests and 2,759 over 16 Baker games for 5,504 combined score.  Claiming the meet crown was Spring Arbor University (Mich.) with a 5,700-pin count.  Indiana Tech captured runner-up honors with its 5,583-pin fall, followed by Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) at 5,530.

In the individual competition, Katelynn Statz claimed All-Tournament Team honors and was St. Francis' top varsity finisher, placing fifth overall in the field of 142 bowlers.  She dropped 599 pins over three games, including a high game of 245 for an average round of 199.7.  Cassidy Stewart finished second behind Statz and 12th overall, totaling 544 pins.  She averaged 181.3 per round.

Spring Arbor's Kayla Tafanelli was the top individual performer on Saturday with her 221.3 average.  She totaled 664 pins knocked down.

On the junior varsity front, USF's team finished fifth out of 10 squads with its 4,788-pin count.  Chloe Greep headlined the Fighting Saints' effort, placing first among all USF reserve competitors and 38th overall with her 499-pin total (166.3 average).  Kendall Leprich was the next Saints' reserve finisher with her 54th overall placement and 458-pin count (152.7 average).

The Saints return to action on October 4-5 when they travel to Sterling Heights, Mich. to compete in the 54th Annual Midwest Collegiate Championships.
