BROOKINGS, S. Dak. --- Sam Mickelson will represent the University of St. Francis men's track & field team at the 2024 NAIA Indoor Championships on Saturday following his record-setting performance in Friday's 3,000-meter preliminary race.

Mickelson recorded his personal-best time in the event, clocking in at 8:34.87, which eclipsed his previous-best mark by nearly two seconds.  It also enabled him to finish among the Top 12 performers out of 35 total individuals in the race and advance to Saturday's finals.

Youssef Asslouj from University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) produced the best time of the three heats, finishing in 8:28.30.

Mickelson will compete at 3 pm on Saturday with the top eight performers earning NAIA All-America status.
