CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. - The University of St. Francis men's tennis team concluded its fall season over the weekend after traveling back to Prairie State College to participate in a second Pioneer-hosted tournament.
Lucas Fernandez-Pedrera headlined the Fighting Saints' efforts, finishing the day reaching the semifinal round before falling to individual champion Christopher Morris.
Jack O'Donnell opened the weekend claiming a first-round victory over Stephen Campbell with scores of 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-2).
After Fernandez-Pedrera and
Jedriel Bondoc received Round 1 byes, Bondoc and O'Donnell would each fall in Round 2, while Fernandez-Pedrera claimed a victory against BJ Bush 7-5, 6-2. Bondoc dropped his match by scores of 6-4, 6-2 against Paul Wettgen, while O'Donnell fell 6-1, 6-1 to Chris Deaton.
Fernandez-Pedrera and Deaton then squared off in the quarterfinals with Deaton forcing a tiebreaker after winning the second game 3-6. Fernandez-Pedrera, nonetheless, prevailed with a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory. The win set up a semifinal
matchup against Morris, where Fernandez-Pedrera fell 6-0, 6-1.
