CHICAGO --- For the second time this season, University of St. Francis has swept Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly softball honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Kaylie Sippel collected her first CCAC Player of the Week award, while
Hannah Vachon was recognized as the CCAC Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time in the last five weeks for the seven-day period ending April 9.
Sippel could not have done much more in a doubleheader sweep of Saint Xavier University on Friday. The junior outfielder was perfect on the day, reaching base all seven times she stepped to the plate via five hits and two walks. Among her hits was one double. She also scored three times and drove in another three runs.
Vachon pitched in both contests, including tossing a five-inning three-hitter in a 10-1 first-game triumph. That victory snapped a 17-game conference winning streak for Saint Xavier dating back to last year. The Cougars also came into the contest having won 27-of-28 league games over the past two-plus seasons.
Vachon struck out two batters against two walks in the outing with the only run she allowed being unearned. The win moved her overall record to 10-2 on the campaign.
The doubleheader sweep marked the first time since April 13, 2019 that SXU had lost a conference twinbill. It also improved St. Francis' record to 19-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
The Saints return to action Thursday hosting Trinity Christian College at 3:30 pm.
