LOCKPORT, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season with its 6-1 victory over Elmhurst University at Challenge Fitness on Thursday afternoon.
Sebastian Bahamondes,
Ignacio Hernandez,
Paul Wottgen and
Aidan Flores all collected a pair of victories on the day.
The Saints (2-5) gained their first point of the match after winning 6-2 and 6-4 in the top two slots of doubles play. Bahamondes and Hernandez made up the first team with Wottgen and Flores comprising the second.
USF went on to capture five of the six singles matches, starting with Wottgen's clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 3. Hernandez dropped only two games at No. 2, winning 6-0, 6-2, while Flores yielded only one game at No. 4, coming out victorious 6-0, 6-1.
St. Francis' other two wins came from Bahamondes at No. 1 (6-1, 7-6 (7-3)) and
John Hejl at No. 5 (6-0, 6-4).
The Saints head to Florida next week as part of their annual spring break trip where they open with St. Thomas University (Fla.) on Monday.
