Box Score 2 OWENSBORO, Ky. --- The University of St. Francis softball team put up 27 hits on the day, while USF pitchers allowed just two singles as the Saints swept a doubleheader from Brescia University by 8-0 and 7-0 counts Monday afternoon.
Eleven Saints in all registered hits on the day with nine players producing multiple hits.Â
Maddie Massaro and
Madisen Tucker led the way with four hits apiece.
In the circle,
Bridget McDermott,
Hannah Vachon, and Tucker made quick work of the Bearcats, facing three batters over the minimum in each contest.
Game 1: USF 8, Brescia 0
McDermott (2-0) was nearly unhittable on the day with 11 of the 15 outs she recorded coming on strikeouts in the five inning affair. The only hit that she allowed came with one out in the third inning. She also yielded a pair of walks.
The Saints scored runs in all but the first inning, starting with a three run second. Eight of the nine players in the lineup came away with at least one hit as part of 12 for the contest with Massaro, Tucker,
Kaylie Sippel, and
Gracyn Gabriel all going 2 for 3.
Game 2: USF 7, Brescia 0
In the nightcap, it was Vachon (1-1) and Tucker that combined on the one-hitter with that single coming in the sixth inning. Vachon struck out seven batters against no walks in her six innings of work. Tucker notched another strikeout in the final inning.
Ten Saints contributed to the 15-hit attack with Massaro and Tucker matching their two hits in the opener with two more in the nightcap. They were joined in the two hit club by
Brittany Osborne,
Danielle Callahan, and
Kenna Kleinert.
Similar to the first game, USF put up three runs in the second inning and followed with one run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth inning.
