Eight Is Great For CCAC Women's Cross Country Champs

CHANNAHON, Ill. --- Eight turned out to be great in more ways than one for the University of St. Francis women's cross country team as eight runners earned all-league honors to lead the program to its eighth straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship on Saturday at Channahon Community Park.

The Saints more than doubled up on Olivet Nazarene University, their next-closest challenger, finishing with 20 points.  ONU totaled 44 points.  Judson University was a distant third with 95 points.  A total of nine full teams made up the field.

USF's Ana Mendoza Pineda crossed the finish line first to claim CCAC Runner of the Year honors with a pair of her teammates right behind in the No. 2 and 3 slots.  Pineda finished the 5K course in 18:36.2, battling rain and wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour.  Next up was Katherine Bakken at 18:39.7 and Bailey Wilk at 18:46.9.

USF's other scorers were Allison Ramsey and Alexia Bibakis.  Ramsey placed sixth in 19:16.2, while Bibakis was eighth (19:39.4).

Three other Saints also finished among the top 15 runners to earn the all-league plaudits.  Olivia Bukowski was one-half second behind Bibakis to place ninth in a time of 19:39.9.  Kelsey Rice finished in just under 20 minutes at 19:59.7 to place 12th with Megan Ramsey 13th at 20:04.4.

A total of 77 runners competed in the event.

NOTES: The title sends the Saints to the NAIA National Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. on Nov. 18 … For Bakken, Wilk, Allison Ramsey and Pineda, the all-conference designation marked the third time that they were honored in their careers … Megan Ramsey was recognized for the second straight year … Head coach Jeff Barker was named the CCAC Coach of the Year for the eighth year in a row.
