Five Women’s Cross Country Runners Earn Academic Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo./CHICAGO -- Five members of the University of St. Francis women's cross country team have gained honors for their success both on and off the course this past fall with the announcements of both the NAIA Scholar-Athletes and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for 2024.

Claiming both recognitions were graduate seniors Allison Ramsey, Megan Ramsey and Riley Fleming, senior Liliana Ordonez and sophomore Marianne Gerona.

Allison Ramsey, who is seeking her Master's degree in Social Work, and Megan Ramsey, who is pursuing her Master's in Business Administration, were the only members of the CCAC team to gain the league honors for the fourth consecutive year.  Ordonez, a Nursing major, garnered her second recognition, while Gerona, also majoring in Nursing, and Fleming, a Social Work Master's candidate, were awarded the accolades for the first time.

Fleming and Gerona were two of only eight runners among the 43 individuals dotting the league list to boast perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point averages.

Allison and Megan Ramsey were also each named NAIA Scholar-Athletes for the fourth straight year, while Ordonez collected her second said honor and both Fleming and Gerona their first.

To be nominated for the CCAC award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at her school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 30 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.

In order to receive NAIA Scholar-Athlete status, nominees must be a sophomore or above in academic standing, must have been in attendance at the nominating institution for one full academic year and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher at the time of the nomination deadline.
