DAVENPORT, Iowa ---
Elihu Young gained a pair of first-place finishes and
Omar Paramo and
Carlos Martinez each hit the "A" standard mark in the mile run to lead the University of St. Francis men's indoor track & field team to a third place finish at the St. Ambrose University Fighting Bee Invitational on Saturday.
Young made his mark in both the 200- and 600-meter races. He out performed a big field of 65 entrants in the 200 with his time of 22.67 before capturing the 600 in 1:22.87. Twenty individuals made up the latter race.
Three other Saints also claimed their events.
Pedro Ocampo was the top finisher in a field of 20 in the 1,000-meter race (2:33.40), while Paramo was first among 28 challengers in the mile run (4:15.86).
Daasebre Appah-Dankyi used a jump of 6 feet, two inches to gain the top spot in the high jump.
Recording runner up finishes were
Kaizer Giddie and
Jordan Freese. Giddie placed second in the 400-meter event (50.03 seconds), while Freese did the same in the 600 (1:23.81).
Giddie also scored a third place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.87 seconds), while
Kenny Brown gained the same placement in the 60 meter dash (7.11) and Martinez in the mile run (4:17.67). Martinez's performance earned him a trip to the NAIA National Championships just like Paramo.
USF's overall effort landed the Saints 107 points to place only behind Grand View University (Iowa) (158) and host St. Ambrose (131).
