Saints Place In Top Ten In Three Events At Mustang Distance Carnival and Chicagoland Championships Meets

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa/Elmhurst, Ill. -- Led by Tyler Anderson, Jack Wright, Scott Crabb, Cris Estanol, Karson Shrum and Jerrico Rodriguez, the University of St. Francis men's outdoor track & field team gained seven Top 10 finishes between the Mount Mercy University Mustang Distance Carnival on Friday and the Elmhurst University Chicagoland Championships on Saturday.

At the Mount Mercy meet, Anderson opened the day with a second-place finish in the 5,00-meter run.  He recorded a time of 14:49.18 and defeated 13 other competitors out of the 15 total, before Wright, Crabb, Estanol and Shrum also claimed Top 10 honors in the same event.  Wright completed the race in third-place with a personal-best time of 14:52.05, while Crabb finished in sixth clocking in at 14:54.97, also for a personal-best.  Estanol and Shrum rounded out the group in eighth and ninth places, respectively, with times of 15:26.93 and 15:32.56.

Highlighting the list of performers at the Chicagoland Championships with top half finishes were Rodriguez, Montrell Chapman, Stephen Sodipe, Greyson Harrington and the 4x400m relay team.

Rodriguez recorded a Top 10 finish of his own in the 400m hurdles, finishing seventh overall amongst 30 competitors with a time of 57.21.  The sophomore also competed in the 100m preliminaries, and clocked in at 11.50 for 53rd place out of 132.

Chapman and Sodipe both competed in the 400-meter race.  Chapman placed 26th out of 72 athletes with a time of 51.94, while Sodipe crossed the finish line in 52.05 for 28th place.  Harrington competed in the 200-meter race, finishing in 47th place out of 84 competitors.

Rounding out the list of competitors for St. Francis was the 4x400-meter relay team.  The quartet consisting of Rodriguez, Ellias Smith, Jonathan Tavares, and Chapman authored USF's final Top 10 finish, finishing eighth overall amongst 19 teams with a time of 3:28.34.

No team scores were recorded at the meet.
