BOURBONNAIS, Ill.--- The University of St. Francis men's tennis team saw its season come to a close with a 5-1 setback at the hands of Olivet Nazarene University in the quarterfinal round of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
The Saints were unable to stop Olivet Nazarene in doubles action. The Tigers claimed 6-2 and 6-1 victories at the Nos. 1 and 2 slots, respectively, and the wins were enough to take the opening point of the match.
In singles action, ONU cruised to victories at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions. Paul Wottgen (FR/Leinburg, Germany) provided a spark for the Saints with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 3.
USF, however, was unable to rally behind Wottgen's triumph and dropped decisions at the Nos. 5 and 6 slots. The five victories were enough for ONU to claim the match victory and move on to the semifinal round of the tournament.
The Saints conclude the abbreviated 2020-21 campaign at 2-6.
