LOCKPORT, Ill.---- Martin Rayos Del Sol (JR/Romeoville, Ill.), Paul Wottgen (FR/Leinburg, Germany), Daniel Espinosa (JR/Bogota, Columbia), and Erwan Le Guennec (SR/Ercuis, France) each earned a pair of victories for the University of St. Francis men's tennis team on Thursday to claim a 5-2 team victory over Bethel University at Challenge Fitness Indoor Courts.
Le Guennec and Espinosa as well as Rayos Del Sol and Wottgen teamed up in doubles play where they each earned their first victories of the day. The duo of Javier Alonso Egea (SO/L'Eliana, Spain) and Aidan Flores (FR/New Lenox, Ill.) collected the third doubles victory for the Saints at No. 3 with a 6-4 win over the Bethel tandem of Wes Troyer and Jerad Bos. The result gave the Saints the first point of the match.
In singles action, Le Guennec got things started by earning a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Evan Roth. Bethel would then respond with wins at the Nos. 6 and 1 slots to tie the contest at two-all.
The Saints were able to close out the match with wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 5. Wottgen claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Bos in the No. 3 slot. Following Wottgen, Espinosa finished off Wes Troyer 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4. After dropping his first set, Rayos Del Sol was able to finish Bethel off with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) decision at No. 5.
The Saints improved to 2-2 overall with the victory. USF returns to action on Wednesday (April 7) to take on Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Olivet Nazarene University. Opening serve is set for 12:30 pm at Challenge Fittness.
