Lewis Spoils St. Francis Home Opener

LOCKPORT, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback in its home opener against crosstown rival Lewis University on Tuesday at Challenge Fitness.

John Hejl (FR/Lockport, Ill.) claimed the lone victory on the afternoon for USF.  He capped the day with a straight-set 7-5, 6-2 win over Earl Lim at No. 6 singles. The victory was Hejl's second of the season.

After dropping the first four singles matches in straight sets, Martin Rayos Del Sol (JR/Romeoville, Ill.) grabbed a 6-4 victory in the opening set at No. 5. It was the first set victory of the afternoon for the Saints. Daniel Sowa, however, rallied in the second set with a 6-2 win before completing the comeback with a 10-6 tiebreaker decision.

The Flyers were able to take down the Saints in all three double matches earlier in the afternoon. The loss put the Saints at 1-2 on the season, while Lewis evened out its record at 4-4.

St. Francis returns to the courts on Sunday (March 28) when it hosts Roosevelt University in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup beginning at 10 am at Challenge Fitness.
