Saints Cruise to Win Over St. Ambrose

MOLINE, Ill. --- The University of St Francis men's tennis team kicked off its spring season by cruising to a 7-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over St. Ambrose University on Saturday afternoon at the Quad City Tennis Center.
 

The Saints (1-0, 1-0 CCAC) swatted away the Fighting Bees early on in doubles competition after the tandem of Daniel Espinosa (JR/Bogota, Columbia) and Erwan Le Guennec (SR/Ercuis, France) took a 6-0 decision in the No.1 slot. The teams of Javier Alonso Egea (SO/L'eliana, Spain)Martin Rayos Del Sol (JR/Romeoville, Ill), and Donald Kraz (FR/Plainfield, Ill.), Aidan Flores (FR/New Lenox, Ill.) both earned 6-2 wins at Nos. 2 and 3. The three doubles victories gave the Saints a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
 

On the singles side, St. Ambrose, which fell to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in league play, was unable to get a set victory against St. Francis. The Saints won all six matches in the minimum two sets. Egea and Le Guennec won 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-0, respectively, at Nos. 1 and 2. Espinosa and Rayos Del Sol were also victorious in their singles matches at Nos. 3 and 4. Newcomer John Hejl (FR/Lockport, Ill.) added a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5, with Flores closing things out with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No.6.
 

The Saints are off until March 20 when they travel to Notre Dame, Ind. to face Holy Cross College in another CCAC matchup beginning at 4 pm.
