KANSAS CITY, Mo./GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- In its second year of membership in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the University of St. Francis women's bowling team garnered a total of 16 all-academic selections when the WHAC announced its winter academic honor roll on Friday afternoon. Thirteen of those named were also chosen as NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Graduate senior
Estrella De la Rosa secured NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for the fourth time in her careers, while seniors
Cadence Ala,
Bryanna Battles,
Lilliana Gutierrez,
Idalia Hernandez, and
Katelynn Statz each received the award for the third time. Seniors
Chloe Greep and
Scarlett LaBuda along with juniors
Lindsey Prosperi and
Haley Tobiasz were the recipients of the tributes for the second time, while rounding out the honorees were first-time recipients in senior
Samantha Coldwater, junior
Evelyn Davalos, and sophomore
Karissa Reyes. All 13 individuals also picked up WHAC accolades for the first time.
Battles and Statz are both Elementary Education majors, while Gutierrez and Tobiasz are each pursing a degree in Art & Design. Ala is majoring in Biology, Coldwater is working on a degree in Computer Science and Davalos is an Accounting & Business Analytics major.
As for the others, De la Rosa is pursuing a graduate degree in Business Administration, Greep is majoring in Radiation Therapy, Hernandez is a Values-Based Management major, LaBuda will enter the Communication & Media Arts field upon completion of her degree, Prosperi is working on an undergraduate degree in English, and Reyes is majoring in Nursing.
A total of 175 student-athletes representing 49 schools gained NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors when they were announced by the national office on Wednesday.
In order to garner that status, nominees must be a sophomore or above in academic standing, must have been in attendance at their nominating institution for one full academic year and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher at the time of the nomination deadline.
The aforementioned 13-person contingent was joined by a trio of other Saints on the WHAC All-Academic Team. Those also recognized were:
Isabella Chojnowski: Junior majoring in English
Leigha Henkel: Senior Values-Based Management major
Cassidy Stewart: Senior pursuing a degree in History
A total of 55 student-athletes representing nine schools gained WHAC All-Academic accolades when they were announced by the league office on Friday. LaBuda was one of a small group of individuals dotting the conference list in boasting a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.
To be nominated for the WHAC award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at her school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 24 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
