Men’s Bowling Claims Nine All-Academic Selections

KANSAS CITY, Mo./GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- In its second year of membership in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the University of St. Francis men's bowling team garnered a total of nine all-academic selections when the WHAC announced its winter academic honor roll on Friday afternoon.  Four of those named were also chosen as NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Noah Daufenbach, Dylan Holtz and Joseph Koc each secured NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for the second time in their careers, while Spencer Bruinsma received the award for the first time.  All four individuals also picked up WHAC accolades for the first time.

Daufenbach, a junior, is a Psychology major.  Holtz is a senior majoring in Marketing, while Koc is in his junior year while working on a degree in Nursing.  Bruinsma is junior majoring in mathematics.

A total of 166 student-athletes representing 47 schools gained NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors when they were announced by the national office on Wednesday.

In order to garner that status, nominees must be a sophomore or above in academic standing, must have been in attendance at their nominating institution for one full academic year and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher at the time of the nomination deadline.

The aforementioned four-person contingent was joined by a group of five other Saints on the WHAC All-Academic Team.  Those also recognized were:

Rodolfo Flores: Junior majoring in Recreation & Sport Management
Nathen Noscal-Sakai: Junior pursuing a degree in Elementary Education
Jalen Pfaff: Senior Information Technology major
Ardani Rodas: Graduate Senior working on a degree in Business Administrtion
Matthew Skwarek: Junior Recreation & Sport Management

A total of 57 student-athletes representing 10 schools gained WHAC All-Academic accolades when they were announced by the league office on Friday.  Bruinsma was one of a small group of individuals dotting the conference list to boast a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.

To be nominated for the WHAC award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at his school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 24 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
