Anderson Hits “B” Standard At GVSU Big Meet, Saints Also Compete At Chicagoland Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich./NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Tyler Anderson recorded a NAIA "B" standard mark in the 5,000-meter run as the University of St. Francis men's indoor track & field team took part in two meets over the weekend, with six Saints racing at the Grand Valley State University (Mich.) Big Meet on Friday and 12 others competing at the North Central College Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Saturday.  The meets were the last two of the indoor regular season before the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships commence on February 20.

Scott Crabb, Karson Shrum, Alberto Fernandez Arango and Manuel Soto all also competed along with Anderson for St. Francis in the 5,000-meter race among 249 runners at the GVSU Big Meet.  Anderson crossed the line first at 14:43.16, followed by Crabb at 15:08.61.  Shrum and Fernandez Arango were not far behind with their respective personal-best times of 15:12.36 and 15:16.95, while Soto clocked in at 15:41.68.

Jack Wright rounded out the USF competitors in the 3,000-meter run.  He recorded a personal-best time of 8:30.88 among 38 competitors.

At the North Central Chicagoland Indoor Championships,12 Saints took part in their respective events, while Cris Estanol, Chris Ogbuli, Ellias Smith, Tizoc Landeros, Jonathan Tavares, and Montrell Chapman each recorded Top 20 finishes.

In the mile run, Estanol finished ninth overall out of 38 competitors with a time of 4:33.59, while Landeros also placed in the same event in 17th place after registering a time of 4:44.33.  Smith (15th place) and Chapman (19th place) clocked in at 52.43 and 52.96, respectively, in the 400-meter race, while Tavares posted a time of 2:06.07 in the 800-meter run, which was 17th overall.

Ogbuli rounded out USF's Top 20 finishes with his performance in the high jump.  He finished in 14th place after authoring a final height of 1.69m.

The Saints will compete next at the CCAC Indoor Championships, which will take place Feb. 20-21 at the Perry Student Life & Recreation Center in Bourbonnais, Ill.
