Women’s Bowling Places Fifth At Greater Detroit Open

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Six Top 25 individual performances enabled University of St. Francis' women's bowling program to gain a fifth-place varsity finish and produce a junior varsity runner-up effort at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Detroit Open on Saturday.

Indiana Institute of Technology claimed the team titles on each level among the 12 varsity programs and eight junior varsity squads.  The Warriors knocked down 5,975 pins to place ahead of Aquinas College (Mich.) (5,769) and Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) (5,762) at the varsity level.  USF scored a 5,655.

On the junior varsity side, Indiana Tech finished 309 pins ahead of the Saints at 5,662.  USF dropped 5,353 pins.

Bryanna Battles led the way for St. Francis.  She fell just two pins short of placing among the Top 10 finishers overall at No. 11 with her three-game score of 607 (202.3 avg.).  Her best round (231) opened the day and was followed by a 182 and a 194.

Lindsey Prosperi tied for 14th place with her 199.0 average.  She registered games of 193, 210 and 194 for her 597 total.

Amanda Xumsai also finished in a tie.  She placed 18th with her 586 total (191-186-209), which averaged out to a 195.3.

The next three Saints were bunched together with teammates Chloe Greep and Kaitlyn Thompson tied for 22nd place with their three-game 570 postings (190.0 avg.).  Demetra Kontos was 25th at 562 (187.3). 

Greep's breakdown had her at 180-231-159, with Thompson producing games of 227, 177 and 166.  Kontos put up games of 182, 193 and 187. 

Grand Valley State University's Mackenzie Calahan topped the individual list of performers with her three-game score of 713 (237.7).

The Saints have the next two weekends off before heading to Indianapolis to compete in the 57th Annual Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic.
