Men's Track & Field Gains Eight NAIA, CCAC Academic Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo./CHICAGO -- The University of St. Francis men's track & field program claimed eight spots on the 2024-25 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field All-Academic Team when it was announced on Wednesday morning.  Additionally, seven of those named also secured NAIA Scholar-Athlete status.

Capturing the dual honors were Tyler Anderson, Miguel Garcia, Sam Mickelson, Adam Montenegro, Erik Tejeda, Scott Tumilty and James Zilinger.  Recognized on the CCAC team was Jack Wright.

Montenegro and Tejeda both three-peated as NAIA Scholar-Athletes and on the CCAC All-Academic Team.  Montenegro earned his undergraduate degree in Criminal & Social Justice, while Tejeda secured his Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at the beginning of the month.

For the other dual recipients, Anderson, Garcia, Mickelson, Tumilty and Zilinger were chosen for both awards for the first time each.  Mickelson and Tumilty earned their Master's degrees in Management and Special Education Licensure, respectively, this month, while Zilinger did the same at the undergraduate level in Biology.  Anderson is pursuing a degree in Accounting & Business Analytics, and Garcia is working to complete his Bachelor's degree in Psychology.

Mickelson was also one of only seven players among the 88 individuals dotting the league list to boast a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.

Wright rounded out the octet of awardees with his first-time selection to the CCAC academic team.  He is majoring in Biology.

To be nominated for the CCAC award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at his school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 30 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.

In order to receive NAIA Scholar-Athlete status, nominees must be a sophomore or above in academic standing, must have been in attendance at the nominating institution for one full academic year and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher at the time of the nomination deadline.
