Reif Named All-American After Thrilling Finish At NAIA Indoor Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The University of St. Francis men's track & field program came away with one NAIA All-American following the performance of Michael Reif in the 5,000-meter race on the final day of the 2025 NAIA Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Reif's status as a NAIA Indoor All-American was secured after a dramatic ending resulted in a personal record for the senior in his final collegiate indoor race.  While holding a ninth-place position after coming into the front stretch, Reif hit the acceleration to chase down Justin Ash from Eastern Oregon University to make up a 10-meter deficit down the stretch.  When the dust settled, Reif found himself placing eighth overall among the 12 performers that qualified to compete on Saturday after Thursday's preliminaries.  He finished in 14:35.54, just 0.11 seconds ahead of Ash (14:35.65) to claim the final All-America spot.

Reif was 6.61 seconds better than on Thursday with his preliminary time of 14:42.15.  His times in the preliminaries and finals were both PR's, which topped his previous indoor best of 14:45.98.  That was accomplished at the GVSU Holiday Open this past December.

Luca Madeo of University of the Cumberlands (Tenn.) claimed top honors in the event, finishing in a time of 14:06.19, which was just 2.41 seconds behind the Alachua County Sports & Events Center at Celebration Pointe facility record.

Saturday's accomplishment was the first career Indoor All-America accolade for Reif, upping his career total to five between track & field and cross country.  In November, Reif became the only runner in the 32-year history of the USF men's cross country program to accomplish the All-America four-peat feat in that sport.
