DAVENPORT, Iowa --
Michael Reif accounted for 20 of the University of St. Francis men's indoor track & field team's 48 total points to lock in the squad's fourth-place finish at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships over the weekend.
Reif gained the spotlight with two individual titles in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter events, the latter of which his time came within just five seconds of a conference record. He won the 3000m race among a field of 20 competitors in a time of 8:41.54, while he later checked in at 15:03.61 in the 5000m race to best 18 other challengers. Reif also received all-conference accolades for his performance in each event.
Also competing in the 3000m event were teammates
Jack Wright and
Scott Crabb. Wright's fourth-place finish (8:46.64) resulted in five points for the Saints' team total, while Crabb's fifth-place finish (8:49.99) netted USF four more points.
Sam Mickelson's sixth-place finish in the 5000-meter event resulted in three points.
Scott Tumilty collected another five points for USF en route to recording a fourth-place finish with a time of 7.00 seconds in the 60-meter dash, while the 4x400m relay squad of
Jerrico Rodriguez,
Ellias Smith,
Jonathan Tavares and
Montrell Chapman also secured fourth-place honors, clocking in at 3:31.96.
Rodriguez also fared well in the long and triple jump events to provide six total points to USF's team score. He finished in sixth place in both the long jump (6.41 meters) and triple jump (12.42m).
Olivet Nazarene claimed the conference championship by totaling 258 points. St. Ambrose University was second with 209 points, followed by Saint Xavier University with 177.5 points. A total of eight teams made up the field.
St. Ambrose's Dylan Grandon garnered Outstanding Track Athlete accolades, while Saint Xavier's Ronnie Foster claimed Outstanding Field Athlete honors. Grandon was also named the meet's MVP.
Olivet Nazarene's Kyle Rago was named the CCAC Coach of the Year, while St. Ambrose's Beth Jansen was tagged as the league's Assistant Coach of the Year.

The Saints are at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet, which will take place at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Mich. next Friday (February 14). They will also travel to Naperville, Ill. to compete in the North Central College Chicagoland Indoor Invite on Saturday (February 15).
