ROCKFORD, Ill. --
Katelynn Statz placed among the Top 5 bowlers at the 25th Annual Leatherneck Classic on Saturday and Sunday to earn the University of St. Francis women's bowling team a seventh-place finish out of 28 teams competing at the event.
Statz placed fifth overall of 249 total competitors courtesy of her 207.0 five-game average, which featured a high round of 236. As a result of her performance, Statz was named to the five-member All-Tournament Team.
Bryanna Battles was 52nd at 177.6, topped by a round of 200.
As a team, USF recorded a total of 7,240 pins knocked down between the five individual and 15 Baker games. Judson University was the No. 1 seed heading into the eight-team bracket round after finishing at 7,688. Third-seeded Mount Mercy University (Iowa) topped Indiana Tech in the finals, winning the best-of-five series, 3-1.
On the reserve team front,
Elizabeth Mansmith led all JV bowlers with her 44th-place overall finish and 179.8 average. The senior posted 180-plus scores in three of her five games with a season high of 190 in her second effort.
Alyssa Coldwater placed 75th overall, the highest of USF's other reserve squad, registering a 169.8 average.
Mansmith led the way to her reserve squad's third-place team finish (6,686 pins knocked down), while Coldwater's reserve unit placed sixth (6,556) among the 13 competing.
