Six Saints Claim Men's Soccer Academic Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo./CHICAGO -- Led by three-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete Erick Guzman, the University of St. Francis men's soccer team boasted six players earning top academic honors with the announcements of both the NAIA Scholar-Athletes and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for 2025.

Joining Guzman as NAIA Scholar-Athletes were Mateo Del Bosque and Nathan Sharp.

In order to receive that status, nominees must be a sophomore or above in academic standing, must have been in attendance at the nominating institution for one full academic year and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher at the time of the nomination deadline.

That three-person contingent was also part of a group of three additional Saints to claim a spot on the CCAC Men's Soccer All-Academic Team.  The other three honorees were Sergio Fernandez-Arango, Michael O'Shea and Bruno Silva.

To be nominated for the CCAC award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at her school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 30 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.

Guzman gained status with both awards for the third time in his career as a Saint, while Del Bosque did so for the third second on both honors.  Guzman is a senior defender/midfielder majoring in Psychology and Substance Abuse Counseling, while Del Bosque, a junior midfielder, is pursuing a degree in Radiation Therapy.

In his first year of eligibility, Sharp marked his name on both award lists.  The senior defender, is working towards a Bachelor's degree in Finance.  He was one of only five players among the 99 individuals dotting the league list to boast a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.

Fernandez-Arango, a graduate senior forward, closed out his career with the conference recognition for the second consecutive season.  He will graduate this spring with a Master's degree in Business Administration.

O'Shea and Silva completed the list of league honorees with their first accolades.  O'Shea is a senior defender majoring in Special Education and Silva, a junior forward, is an International Business major.
