CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The University of St. Francis varsity women's bowling team came away with a third-place finish among 11 squads competing at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Great Lakes Open on Saturday, while its reserve squad placed fourth following seven traditional and 16 Baker games.
The varsity team totaled 5,484 pins knocked down over the combined 31 games, while Indiana Tech led the way at 5,511. Lawrence Tech followed at 5,505. On the reserve front, St. Francis' team totaled 4,643 pins.
Individually, two Saints finished in the Top 3 out of 106 total bowlers and received All-Tournament Team honors for their efforts. Headlining the list was
Katelynn Statz in second place with her 207.3 average. Her best round was a 223 in Game 1 and finished just one pin shy of first place finisher Brooke Binder of Aquinas College (Mich.).
Bryanna Battles was just 23 pins behind Statz in third place with her 199.7 average, highlighted by a 230 in the third game.
Kaitlyn Thompson was 31st with a 163.3 average. Her best game was a 201.
Taylor Patterson was the frontrunner for USF's reserve team. Her 28th place overall finish and 164.74 average helped lead the way for the Saints' fourth-place win.

The Saints will compete again next Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 8-9) when they travel to Rockford, Ill. to compete in the 25th Annual Leatherneck Classic.
