COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Senior
Michael Reif solidified himself in University of St. Francis men's cross country program history by adding a fourth All-America medal to his long list of accomplishments after leading the No. 21 Fighting Saints to a 15th-place team finish at the NAIA National Championships on Friday morning at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. Reif is the only runner in the 32-year history of the USF men's cross country program to accomplish the individual four-peat feat.
Reif's fourth NAIA All-America honor came courtesy of his 20th-place finish and 24:27.5 time on the 8K course. The latter number allowed him to cap off his collegiate cross country career with a personal-best time. Reif and the Saints ran amongst a field of 36 teams and 326 individuals.
Noah Friske and
Miguel Garcia were the next two USF finishers on the day. Friske clocked a 24:55.7 for 61st overall, while Garcia followed in 144th place with a 25:26.6 finish.
Scott Crabb and
Mikey Corcoran were the final scorers for St. Francis with the two runners finishing back-to-back. Crabb edged out Corcoran by five-tenths of a second at 25:36.1 to finish 171st. Corcoran crossed the finish line at 25:36.6, good for 172nd place.
USF's non-scoring participants were
Jack Wright with his 222nd-place effort and 26:00.4 time and
Manuel Soto's 26:27.0 finish for 253rd place.
The Saints totaled 444 points, just three points shy of placing 14th, which went to Shawnee State University (Ohio) with 441 points. Capturing its first-ever men's title was College of Idaho, which had all five of its score-eligible runners finish no lower than 39th place in totaling 87 points. Defending champion Milligan University (Tenn.) was a close second with 96 points.
Oklahoma City University's Evert Silva captured the individual championship with his time of 23:14.0.
