Sippel's Perfect Report Card Guides Saints To Win Over Indiana Northwest

GARY, Ind. --- A season-best .411 attack percentage carried the University of St. Francis women's volleyball team to a comfortable 25-11, 25-21, 25-13 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Indiana University Northwest on Thursday night.

Kaylie Sippel's perfect report card guided the Fighting Saints to the minimum three-set win.  The junior setter recorded kills on each of her nine attack attempts, while also producing 31 assists.

Gabriela Oliveira was another big force with her 15 kills against only error in 27 chances (.519 hitting clip), while Desiree Anderson notched a double-double with her 10 kills and 13 digs.  Leah Talley led the defensive efforts with her 16 digs.

USF (4-8, 3-1 CCAC) hit better than 43 percent in each of its first two sets before somewhat cooling off to a 31 percent mark in the third set.  The only set that was close was Set 2, which featured 10 ties and two lead changes.

Head coach Cara Currier's team went on an early 9-1 run in Set 1 to open up an 11-4 lead courtesy of three kills from Sippel and two each from Oliveira and Anderson.  Oliveira also had an ace in the run.  Three aces from Talley in a string of seven straight points later on sealed the first-game win.

Tied at 17-all in the back-and-forth second set, Anderson and Oliveira each delivered another two kills late to go up 24-18 en route to the victory.

Taylor Connolly got the Saints off to a 5-1 lead at the start of Set 3 with a pair of kills.  A later 8-0 burst propelled by two kills each from Anderson and Sippel put the game out of reach at 18-6.

Notes: Indiana Northwest (2-14, 1-2) managed just a .069 attack percentage in the contest … Anderson's double-double was her sixth of the season … Connolly also had a solid night offensively with her five kills in 16 chances without an error (.313) … The Saints wrap up the season-long eight-match road trip on Tuesday (7 pm) when they travel to Whiting, Ind. to face Calumet College of St. Joseph.
