JOLIET, Ill. --- Led by
Pedro Ocampo's individual title in the 1,500-meter race, 13 members of the University of St. Francis men's track & field program contributed to the Fighting Saints' 86 total points at the 2023 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend at Joliet Memorial Stadium. That landed USF a fourth-place finish among eight squads at the meet.
Olivet Nazarene University gained the team title with its 268 points, while St. Ambrose University was second with 209.5 and Saint Xavier University third with 123.5.
Ocampo edged out teammate
Michael Corcoran for the conference crown by less than one-half second. Ocampo finished in 4:01.48 with Corcoran at 4:01.92.
Noah Friske placed sixth in the same race at 4:10.18.
Better than one-quarter of USF's points came in the 5,000-meter race, where four of the top six winners represented St. Francis.
Timothy Wade topped the list with his second-place effort (15:26.84). Right behind him were
Michael Reif (15:27.58) and
Scott Crabb (15:41.81). Placing sixth was
David Montalvo at 15:59.33.
Scoring in a pair of individual races were
Adrien Manning and
Elihu Young, both of whom were also part of USF's runner-up finisher in the 4x400-meter relay along with
Darius Brown and
Patrick Todd. The four-man contingent produced a time of 3:20.15.
Manning recorded a pair of fourth-place performances in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. He authored times of 22.33 seconds and 49.05 in the two respective events.
Young, meanwhile, was third in the 100-meter race (10.64) and fifth in the 200 (22.36).
The other top three finish was recorded by Brown, who ran a 1:54.83 in the 800.
In field events, USF gained its points in the hammer throw and long jump.
Kendall Burrow posted a throw of 150 feet, nine inches in the former event to place fourth, while
Jaylen Goolsby was fifth in the long jump (20 feet, 6.25 inches).
By placing in the top three in their respective events, Ocampo, Corcoran, Young, Brown, Wade, Reif, Manning and Todd all secured all-conference honors.
The Saints are back in action next Friday and Saturday when they host their own Fighting Chance Invite.
