INDIANOLA, Ind. ---
Adrien Manning and
Elihu Young both finished in the top ten in two events and five members of the University of St. Francis men's outdoor track & field team did in all in leading the Fighting Saints at the Simpson College (Iowa) Kip Janvrin Open on Friday.
Manning and Young both placed in the 100- and 200-meter dashes with the former recording USF's top finish on the day by earning runner-up distinction among 37 individuals competing in the 200 with his time of 22.09 seconds. He edged out Young by seven-hundredths of a second with Young placing third in 22.16 seconds.
In the 100-meter dash, Young turned the tables on Manning, gaining the team bragging rights with his fifth-place finish in a time of 11.09 seconds. Manning placed eighth at 11.22 seconds. A total of 37 individuals also made up the field in that event.
Also finishing in the top five was
Olek Clark in the long jump, where his distance of 20 feet, 2.25 inches placed him fourth out of ten competitors.
Among longer distance events,
Pedro Ocampo and
Michael Corcoran represented USF in the top ten. Both placed in the 1,500-meter race with Ocampo coming in at 3:55.58 to finish seventh and Corcoran gaining the No. 9 spot with his time of 3:56.83 in a field made up of 93 runners.
USF hosts the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships next Friday and Saturday at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
