ORLANDO, Fla. --- A busy Tuesday resulted in a split decision for the University of St. Francis women's tennis team as the Fighting Saints opened with a 4-0 win over Warner University (Fla.) before dropping a 6-1 decision to Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.).
Anna Bintsarovskaya and
Gabriella Noa captured a pair of victories in the first match, while
Lieke Coenen rallied for the lone win in the second contest.
Bintsarovskaya and Coenen teamed up for a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles in Tuesday morning's match with Bintsarovskaya also winning at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0.
Noa's two positive results came at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles. She first teamed up with
Denisse Lizano for a 6-1 win and then went on to secure a 6-0, 6-2 solo nod.
Warner (2-6) defaulted at No. 6 singles forcing the match to stop at that point with the necessary four points. USF was leading in each of its other three singles matches when play was halted.
In the matchup against Carnegie Mellon (10-3) on Tuesday night, Coenen and Noa were the only two Saint players to win more than two games. Coenen earned a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (11-9) come-from-behind win at No. 4 singles, while Noa fell 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot.
St. Francis (3-4) returns to action on March 16 at Lewis University.
