DAVENPORT, Iowa ---
Pedro Ocampo landed two individual titles at the 2023 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend to lead the University of St. Francis to a third-place finish at the eight-team event.
Ocampo was one of two Saints to deliver a top performance.
Darius Brown also claimed an individual crown in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:23.95.
Ocampo made his mark in the 1,000-meter and mile runs. He ran a 2:31.8 in the former event, which was a "B" standard qualifying time, and a 4:18.92 in the mile.
Michael Corcoran also fared well in the same two events. He placed third in the mile (4:23.09) and fifth in the 1,000 (2:33.95).
Michael Reif was USF's second-leading scorer (13 points) after gaining a runner-up finish in the 5,000-meter race (15:08.09) and producing a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 (8:45.9). The former event is where USF gained its most points, along with the mile. Besides Reif,
Timothy Wade placed fourth (15:17.86),
Scott Crabb was seventh (15:55.8) and
David Montalvo eighth (15:56.87).
Wade also scored in the 3,000, placing eighth in a time of 9:01.93.
Elihu Young and
Adrien Manning each secured 12 points for the Saints. Young placed second in the 60-meter dash (6.95 seconds) and fifth in the 200 (22.7). Manning was third in both the 200 (22.51) and 400 (50.63).
USF also gained third-place finishes from
Oscar Tejeda and
Kendall Burrow. Tejeda made his mark in the 3,000 (8:43.21), while Burrow did so in the weight throw (49 feet, 9.75 inches).
USF totaled 98 points in the two-day event. Olivet Nazarene claimed the league championship with 269.5 points. St. Ambrose was next up with 201.5 points.
Notes: Earning all-conference honors by finishing in the top three in an event at the championships were Ocampo (two events), Manning (two), Young, Brown, Corcoran, Tejeda, Reif and Burrow … Select members of USF's team will head to the NAIA National Championships March 2-4 to complete the indoor season.
