Box Score EAST CHICAGO, Ind. --- The University of St. Francis men's soccer team used a season-high six-goal output to punch its ticket to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 6-1 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday morning.
The Saints (8-6-2, 5-4-2 CCAC) secured the No. 6 seed in the eight-team tournament with the win and will meet Roosevelt University next Saturday in the quarterfinal round.
Five different Saints scored in the regular-season finale with three players registering their first goals of the campaign.Â
Santos Contreras highlighted the offensive onslaught with a pair of goals and one assist.
Ander Santamarta, who provided one goal and one assist, got things rolling just 1:42 into the contest with his goal on a free kick.Â
Rogelio Valles followed just over eight minutes later with his inaugural collegiate goal. Â
St. Francis' other two goals came from
Diego Cortes and
Dominik Barwiolek with the latter also finding the back of the net for the first time on the collegiate level.
Defensively, USF was stellar, as well, limiting Calumet St. Joseph (1-12, 0-11) to just five total shots with only two being on goal. Both of those numbers were season-low efforts by a St. Francis opponent this fall.
Erick Murillo notched his eighth win of the season in goal, stopping one shot and allowing the one goal.
Notes: Contreras' goals were also the first two of the season for him, while his assist was his third … Cortes, Santamarta and Contreras all now have two goals on the campaign … Santamarta's assist was his third of the year.    Â
