UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's volleyball team made it a perfect 2-0 week with its 25-20, 25-15, 20-25, 25-20 victory over Governors State University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday night. Two nights earlier, the Fighting Saints (9-16, 7-3 CCAC) took down defending league champion Saint Xavier University in five sets.
Gabriela Oliveira remained red hot with a match-high 22 kills off a .378 attacking percentage. She also just missed out on a double-double with nine digs.
Desiree Anderson was the other Saint to register double-figure kills with her ten to go along with 13 digs.
Kaylie Sippel had the same amount of the latter figure, while directing the offense with her 43 assists.
Abby Sippel led USF's defense with 14 digs.
Cadence Wodrich also played well defensively, collecting three blocks.
Tied at 13-all in Set 1, the Saints ran off six of the next seven points to take control.
Taylor Connolly (eight kills) put the finishing touches on Game 1 with her kill.
Governors State (0-19, 0-10) led 8-5 in Set 2 before head coach
Cara Currier's team went on an incredible 15-1 run. Oliveira was the key force in the streak with seven kills.
Set 3 went back and forth early before USF scored five unanswered points with two coming from a pair of Oliveira kills and another one on an Anderson kill. Governors State responded with six of the next seven points to force an 18-all tie. The hosts then scored the final five points to get back into the contest.
Another see-saw set resulted in Game 4 with 11 ties and four lead changes. Anderson put the match to rest with her four kills and one ace as part of closing 6-1 run.
USF's 11 aces on the night were a season high with five different Saints recording at least two.
Abby Lab topped the list with her three.
Notes: After recording one 20-plus kill match over her first 21 contests of the season, Oliveira has authored four in a row. Her .378 attack percentage on Thursday was her second-highest figure of the year …
Kaylie Sippel has also played extremely well as of late with her fifth match of 40 or more assists over her last seven games … Sippel's double-double was her 11th of the campaign, while Anderson's was her tenth … Prior to Thursday, USF had played three straight matches of five sets … The Saints are back on the road Tuesday to meet Trinity Christian College in a league affair commencing at 7 pm.
