Darius Brown and
Adrien Manning each scored in a pair of events to lead the University of St. Francis men's indoor track & field team to a fourth-place finish at the St. Ambrose University (Iowa) Fighting Bee Invitational on Saturday. A total of 12 teams made up the field.
The Fighting Saints produced 78 points with Brown and Manning both scoring no less than 12 points. That was one point behind third-place finisher Mount Mercy University (Iowa). Grand View University (Iowa) captured the meet title with 164 points, followed by host St. Ambrose with 127.
Brown registered the top finish for St. Francis with his individual title in the 600-meter event. He clocked in at 1:25.19. He also placed seventh in the mile (4:26.22) to finish with 12 total points.
Manning brought in the most points (14) with his performances in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. He placed second in the former event (22.87 seconds) and third in the 400 (51.4).
From a standards perspective,
Pedro Ocampo earned the best finish for USF. He hit the "B" standard with his second-place showing in the mile run (4:18.91).
The Saints gained their most points (21) in the 3,000-meter race, where no fewer than four USF runners scored.
Oscar Tejeda was second (8:47.64), followed by
Michael Reif in third (9:01.25),
Timothy Wade in fifth (9:13.68) and
Scott Crabb in sixth (9:14.28).
Other scoring Saints were
David Montalvo,
Josel Hernandez,
Michael Corcoran,
Chris Ogbuli and
Elihu Young. Like Tejeda, Manning and Ocampo, Montalvo earned a runner-up finish with his performance coming in the 1,000-meter race (2:49.15).
Hernandez was fourth in the same race (2:56.76), while Corcoran and Ogbuli placed fifth in the mile (4:22.97) and high jump (5 feet, 8.75 inches). Young rounded out USF's scoring with his seventh-place showing in the 400-meter dash (52.32 seconds).
The Saints are in Bourbonnais on Saturday to take part in the Olivet Nazarene University Walter Cramer Invite.
