UPLAND, Ind. --- A four-touchdown performance from
Sam Tumilty on Saturday has earned the University of St. Francis sophomore quarterback Mid-States Football Association Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week accolades, the league office announced Monday afternoon. The award is the first of the season for him and the second of his career.
Tumilty was actually involved in all five of USF's touchdowns in a 34-10 conference win over St. Ambrose University on Saturday. Besides rushing for four scores, he also threw a touchdown pass. His touchdown runs were for 22, 1, 10 and 28 yards, while his TD pass went for eight yards.
Of St. Francis' 254 yards on the ground in the game, Tumilty accounted for 197 of them on 26 carries. The yardage total was his highest output of the campaign.
Through the air, Tumilty was 11-of-23 for 135 yards.
The player of the week honor is the fifth of the season for the St. Francis football program, but the first on the offensive side of the ball. The other four have been for special teams play three times and once for defense.
Winners of five games in a row and one of only two remaining unbeatens in MSFA Midwest League play, the Saints (5-2, 4-0 MSFA) are at Olivet Nazarene University on Saturday for a 1 pm kickoff.
