ALLENDALE, Mich. --- The University of St. Francis men's indoor track & field team opened its 2021-22 campaign by totaling 22 points and landing four NAIA Nationals qualifying marks at the Grand Valley State University (Mich.) Holiday Open on Friday.
Earning the right to compete at the NAIA National Championships in March were
Carlos Martinez,
Omar Paramo,
Oscar Tejeda, and
Caleb Bolus. All four qualified in the 5,000-meter run with Martinez's 14:42.44 representing the top USF mark. Paramo recorded a 14:46.47 followed by Tejeda (14:49.76) and Bolus (14:53.44).
Pedro Ocampo earned USF's top finish at the meet. He placed third in the mile with a time of 4:16.93, which represented a "B" standard mark.
The Saints picked up another eight points in the 400-meter dash with
Elihu Young placing fourth (49.14 seconds) and
Kaizer Giddie finishing sixth (50.3).
Davual Bailey also placed sixth in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 7.02 seconds.
Young and Giddie were also a part of USF's third-place finisher in the 4x400-meter relay event. They were joined by
Kenny Brown and
Moses Biosah, clocking in at 3:20.82.
USF's 22 points allowed the Saints to finish ninth at the meet. Host Grand Valley State captured top team honors with its 103 total points.
